Medicine is an information science. Thanks to the internet that information doesn’t belong strictly to the doctors.

Patients not only have the ability but the responsibility to do their own research and learn about their diagnoses and the available treatments. Exciting new research developments are happening every day, leaving patients (and doctors) inundated with information and unable to keep up with the latest evidence.

Patients not only have the ability but the responsibility to do their own research and learn about their diagnoses and the available treatments.

Most us rely on Google, which doesn’t always lead us to the best information. We have to sort through info at WebMD, health websites, and blogs, and are often left with less than reliable information. Some of us do use Google Scholar or have other ways to access scholarly journals and medical research but it’s difficult to merge all the info into cohesive knowledge.

MedNexus is trying to bridge that gap.

What began as a resource for doctors to easily search and find information on illnesses and treatments expanded to something that is now open for patients.

MedNexus is a search engine specifically for patients – a Google for health related topics. They believe that having access to the right health information can change your life.

The goal of MedNexus is to cut through the crap and the noise of typical health websites, to provide a valuable alternative to WebMD and all the pseudo-science you find online, and to enable you to engage in meaningful conversations with your doctor.

MedNexus for Patients
When I search for something the number of results is cut in half (if not more) from Google and the quality definitely seems to be better.

They separate the results into medical journals, forums, and health topics (these are the pages on major health websites).

Doctors deal with hundreds of patients and often just as many diagnoses. They don’t have time to dig into the research for each and every one and to know what is out there. That’s where being an informed patient comes into play.

As a patient it’s your job to research your diagnoses and to work with your doctor to come up with the best plan of treatment.

You can’t do that unless you have access to all the information that is available. MedNexus wants to help you do that.

MedNexus aims to help you find the most relevant content from the best sources – medical journals, patient forums, government health sites, and even top-tier health blogs.

Whether you are looking for the latest science-based evidence, or just to learn from other patients who have the same condition as you, you can find reliable and actionable answers at MedNexus.

MedNexus is still in Beta and their platform is a work in progress. With that in mind they are looking for honest feedback from patients to find out how they can improve it. So, check it out and then let them know what you think.
